Concrete Actions

Directly after the 5 day Pilgrimage the Global Campus team will begin a number of parallel seminars which are intended as concrete actions to support San José in both ecological sustainability and social knowledge. These will include:

Social Knowledge, Community and Non violence

The peace community of San José is in many ways an example of what many indigenuous tribes or intentional peace communities have to experience at varying levels. Our global societies values in community as a way of living and experiencing the world is gradually being eroded. Through its many years of experience in community building, the Global Campus will support, share and enhance the many social skills already abundant in San José, teach this knowledge to young international people, and create a common global vision of non violent resistance.

Installation of Fruit Drying Machine

In the tropical climate of Colombia high agricultural yields are ensured. However, selling the yields can be very difficult due to the inadequate storage which means the fruits and vegetables perish quickly. By drying the fruits and vegetables these difficulties are taken away - storing becomes possible and any surplus can be sold. The fruit drying machine that will be installed in San José is designed to protect the fruits against precipitation by foil and is ventilated by three fans fed by a solar panel. Air is heated at the front with black foil (or other dark material) lined absorber and then led across the prepared fruits. This means large amounts of fruits can be dried carefully within a short time and also surplus can be profitably processed.

In Tamera we obtained good results with this principle for some months (see below). The dryer for San Jose will be built with guidance from Dipl. Ing. C. Mueller from Ghana.

Installation of Clay Oven

Traditionally in Colombia cooking is done on simple, open herds of loam without smoke outlet. Professor Gernot Minke developed a loam stove particularly for Colombia, which resembles the usual cooking place in material and basic principle, however possesses a smoke outlet and an improved energy use. In acount of the traditional way of life we particularly promise ourselves an improvement of the quality of life and the health of the women. Except for an exhaustion pipe and a lattice, where ashes fall through, they do not have to buy anything. We want to build two pieces in such a way that knowledge is being further transported. In Tamera two members of the peace village have already accompanied the building of a prototype with Martin Funk.

Media

One of the greatest levels of protection in crisis areas is media presence. Media professionals in peace work represent a 'view to the world', having the task and responsibility to accurately report what is going on in a way that allows the world to be empowered to act. The media team will focus on building up a network of journalists, performers, film-makers and other media professionals who can act as that protection all over the world. Parallel to that it will explore creative and innovative ways of producing and presenting peace information.

Community Choir

Sound, music and singing are elements that bring an information of peace directly to our souls. There is a power in Community Choir that both unites us as human beings and reveals again the joy of life. Each day of the Global Campus there will be a common choir practice for all participants - with the vision being a choir which will eventually span the world.
